Rants, Recipes and Ramblings

Wow – A Ron Paul Supporter that doesn’t need Meds!

I finally got a Ron Paul supporter that is able to ask.discuss in a Civil manner.  Very refreashing.  I guess they do exist.

I am a Ron Paul supporter.  I see that you and your father are not.  I support him for one reason only.  I see him as the only one running for President, either from the Republican side or the Democrat side who would change the status quo.  From reading your posts, I believe you feel that any other

Actually I see him locking the status quo in even tighter.  As an “outsider” that earned the name Dr. No by his own “colleagues” they will have little interest in working with him since he will be unwilling (and has always legislated that way) to settle issues in a win/win fashion.  Again, legislation (just like marriage) is a give and take.

I will be teaching high performance driving at Phoenix International Raceway in the morning and crewing for my son’s shifter kart race at Firebird Raceway on Sunday.  I’m sure my wife would rather have me here at the House doing honey-dos this weekend. I certainly don’t hehe….  We compromise.  I have to bring dinner home.   That’s a win/win.  I get to go play and she doesn’t have to cook dinner.

Republican candidate would change things.  It sounds like you would like to see things change.  Which candidate has anything different to offer, other than Paul?

Of course I would.  However to me the BIGGEST and most IMPORTANT role that the President plays is who he appoints (and can get confirmed – again a compromise) to the Supreme Court.  Everything else that happens in the Congress is a compromise.  Therefore, I would rather have a Republican appointing Judges like Roberts, Alito, Scalia or Thomas than a Democrat appointing more Ginsburg’s or Breyer’s.  You can’t know for “sure” how a Judge will rule when he gets to the bench but you have a pretty good idea.  The Sainted Ronald Reagan got it right with one (Scalia) but wiffed it with his other two picks (O’Connor and Kennedy).  Bush I split his two picks with Souter and Thomas but Bush II got it right with Roberts and Alito.  Looking at who the Dem would pick they are ALL bad options as far as I’m concerned.

It is not logical to compare Paul to Perot.  Perot had no political history from which to base his motives.  He ran a rather successful business, but he was a big business man.  Those in office are relying on big business for their financial support.  As you mentioned earlier, Paul is relying on the ?little person? to fund his campaign.  I think that speaks volumes.  Contrary to your opinion of Paul supporters, they are not all nitwits and social outcasts.  Many are thoughtful and discerning.

I’m sure there are and you are demonstrating that there are some that can. Tiger on the other hand showed his hate, venom, rancor and small-mindedness which seems to be all you see on forums and others sites that attract Paul supporters.

I did not compare them on policy.  Just on what the outcome would be.  Split the conservative vote and hand the election to the other side.

Paul has a track record of over 20 years that you can check to see if he really practices what he preaches.  Of the other candidates, those with a track record have evidenced through their voting record what they really think and believe.  I see no changes coming to pass if they were to win their party?s nomination and then succeed against the democratic nominee.

Paul’s track record is to not get along and to therefore not get anything done.  That is not to say that one should rush out and abandon all principle.  It is to say that you take your victories where you can find them and work to advance your agenda.  To be plain obstinate get’s you no where.

As to a candidate changing his positions on an issue…

Flavio Briatore (Renault F1 Team Principle) had a great quote in the current issue of F1 Magazine (page 122)  referring to F1 Boss Bernie Eccelstone.

“…he’s as quick-witted as ever. He’s open to new ideas, too – and, although sometimes we disagree, his arguments are always constructive.  Only stupid people never change their minds…”

When Galileo announced the world was round which politician would you have supported?  Those that placed him under House arrest and insisted the world was flat or changed their mind in the face of new evidence?  I don’t care what caused the change.

I wanted the McCain-Kennedy amnesty bill defeated and it looked like it was going to pass.  Should the “politicians” have voted for it anyway?  No, they changed their mind and voted against it.  Of course you can say that Paul was against it.  But he is against an amendment to define Marriage although a majority favor it.  Saying that DOMA is sufficient.  What happens if an activist Judge strikes it down as was done in Massachusetts?  Will he change his mind then?

Those without a track record vocally support little change or reform to the broken down mess we have currently, due to (IMHO) leaving the founding principles of the nation for their new and improved version of government.  This new and improved government steals the life, liberty and property in a take from the rich and give to the poor mentality (the rich being the middle class in this world, as they are more affected by government than those who can move worldwide with relative ease).  This ?benevolence? results in taking  more from the rich (middle class if you want my definition) and leaves them in worse shape than any time in the history of the nation.

I don’t disagree with you.  I just don’t see how a Paul Presidency will accomplish anything since he has not accomplished anything so far except to piss of the members of Congress that have to pass laws before he could sign them into law.

Again, you have to take your victories where you can get them.

We will shortly see the end result of these fiscal experiments that have been performed these last couple of decades under Greenspan and now with Bernanke.  I think the vaunted middle class of America, that which produces, will have their numbers greatly reduced when all these experiments settle to their least common denominator.

I’m not so sure on this point.  The middle class has expanded but the danger is someone like Charlie Rangle, etc.. taxing them to death.

I see none of the other current Republican candidates, if successful, beating the democrat nominee.  There is already a 70 percent disapproval rating (if one accepts the ?press?) of Bush and the Republican platform.   With that type of rating, do you think one of the standard candidates can win?  I think if Paul were to get the nomination, people wanting change? any change? would flock to him over Hillary or Obama, as the only one who really represents a change in the status quo.

I don’t care what the “poll’s” show about Bush.  He is not running.  Hillary has high disapproval ratings.  I think so high she would not win.  Obama on the other hand hurt himself last week in the debate when he came out in favor of licenses for illegals.  That may work for him in the Primary will he will get beat over the head with it in the General.

The danger of Paul is that he might split enough conservative vote from a viable candidate and allow a more liberal candidate through.  Then the Paul supporters won’t vote for the eventual candidate or will get Paul to run as an Independent.  That would indeed hand the election to Hillary/Obama/Edwards

I have seen nothing produced by you or tiger that would change my mind.  Rather, I see two people resorting to name calling and expletives to support their position.  I don?t know who you are, but I do know tiger and he has been

Tiger is the only one that resorted to expletives.  My “name calling” was so mild that even Tiger commented on the word “Chicken” while telling me to engage in beastiality.

in the battle for liberty for almost 2 decades, putting his liberty and property on the line.  Maybe his life also, but I have not seen that personally.  While I don?t think his language is indicative of one who holds a Ph.D., it is how he talks in a casual environment.  He is a good man and I would think that you two think alike in many things? just not on Paul.¼br />

If you can convince me that there is any other candidate who would make a difference, I am all ears.
¼br />
Until then I will continue to see him as the best choice for the average person, and support him.

I have not settled on a candidate yet myself so I am in no position to convince anyone of who to vote for.  However, Paul has no chance in the primaries or General.  Even if a miracle were to occur and he actually won he would get nothing done as he has pissed off those he would have to work with.
